Pit Bull Pride event is first of its kind in Metroplex

Oct 29, 2013 – Dallas, TX – Hundreds of dog lovers will descend on Flag Pole Hill in White River State Park on Saturday November 2, 2013 from 10a – 1pm to celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day, a nationwide initiative designed to educate the public and change perceptions about Pit Bull type dogs and their owners. This event is the first of its kind in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The event is sponsored by North Texas Pit Bull Alliance, in conjunction with many area shelters, dog rescues and pet businesses.

The day’s activities will include a “Pride” parade with a group photo at the Flag Pole, a costume contest, demonstrations including specialized K9 work and disc dogs as well as presentations on dog safety. DFW area shelters and rescues will be bringing dogs available for adoption and Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will be providing low cost vaccines and microchipping. Local businesses such as Fit for a Pit, an online pet products company, dog trainers and pet products companies will also be onsite.

Mike Ritland, New York Times bestselling author of Trident K9 Warriors, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshall, and Cassandra Gaddis, Mrs. Texas American Beauties Plus 2014, will be judging the costume contest.

“We are so excited to be hosting this event in the DFW area” said Nichole Heilbron, founder of North Texas Pit Bull Alliance. “This is an incredible opportunity to dispel myths about Pit Bull type dogs. This event nationwide shows the public that Pit Bull type dogs are just dogs, and their owners are everyday people.”

We invite the public to join us at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran Circle, Dallas from 10am – 1pm on Saturday November 2, 2013.
